About 1,200 people live and work at the campus.
The facility has three 725 kw engines for on-site generation, giving it added security and the ability to “peak shave.” When power rates are at their peak, the facility shaves its bill by generating its own electricity.
Two of the generators run on 100 percent natural gas. The third, a diesel generator, was converted to APG’s Dual fuel. Converting to Dual fuel is cheaper than converting to 100 percent natural gas, since it does not alter the way the engine works. And Dual fuel allows the engine to use 100 percent diesel if natural gas supplies are interrupted.
“In case of emergency, we have the flexibility of using diesel to keep our emergency systems running,” says Juan Mata, plant manager of the Watchtower complex. “Dual fuel allows us to perform without interruption. We have both flexibility and security.

This may not be the absolute solution but we have an abundance of natural gas in America.

(APG) subsidiary has recently met the emissions testing requirements necessary to begin selling our dual fuel conversion system for selected high-horsepower non-road compression ignition (NCRI) engine families, which are primarily used in multi-stage fracturing of shale gas and shale oil recovery.

EPA Amends Alternative Fuel Conversion Regulations!! This is good news

GreenMan Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: GMTI) announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") has amended its alternative fuel conversion regulations for light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, thereby providing the Company's American Power Group subsidiary ("APG") with a clear path to begin selling its dual fuel vehicular system in the United States during 2011.
Excerpts from the EPA Policy Overview state, "Previous EPA regulations required vehicle and engine conversion systems to be converted by a certificate of conformity to gain regulatory exemption from potential tampering charges. EPA evaluated the requirement and determined that it is appropriate to introduce new flexibilities for all clean alternative fuel converters and expand compliance options for certain categories of conversions. The new approach builds upon the concept that it is appropriate to treat conversions differently based on the age of the vehicle or engine being converted. Under new regulation, testing and compliance procedures differ based on the age category of the vehicle or engine that is being converted: 1) new or relatively new; 2) intermediate age, or 3) outside useful life. All conversion manufacturers seeking exemption must demonstrate compliance, but the requirements differ among age categories. The new options will reduce some economical and procedural impediments to clean alternative fuel conversions while maintaining environmental safeguards to ensure that acceptable emission levels from converted vehicles and engines are being sustained. EPA expects the streamlined approach to result in cost savings for many converters."

Greenman Technologies announces American Power Group

GreenMan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: GMTI) announced that its American Power Group Inc. ("APG") subsidiary has signed an EPA Test Vehicle Agreement with Waste Connections of Colorado, Inc. to convert one of its refuse transfer trucks to APG's dual fuel system and begin on-the-road test trials and emission compliance approval. APG recently became the first company in the U.S. to receive a Vehicular Memorandum of Exemption from the United States Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") allowing public highway access for the testing and verification of APG's unique non-invasive dual fuel upgrade system on aftermarket diesel truck and tractor engines.

I truly love to recycle everything I possibly can. I think we all should join together in the movement to lower our collective carbon footprint.
This blog will be a small initiative to help spread the word of all things Green. Wind, Water and Solar to start with and then later we will search deeper and find new and interesting ways to implement different projects.
First project will be mostly about gaining enough resources to afford a few solar panels and hopefully we will get the ball rolling from there...
