It seems even the most efficient homes with all the best products and appliances will have to cover the entire roof. That means unless you are ready to put in some time and money this project will be hardley worth attempting.
It will take at least a 300 watt panel to maintain about a dozen lightbulbs all day. That means if you spend a few thousand dollars to get a pannel or two your investment will see a positive return in 10 years. I would make sure your home is up to standards before you expect any sort of return.
That doesn't mean that a solar pannel isn't worth the price just to have some green energy. Using the sun to produce any energy is worth the cost and will help drive electricity prices down.
