USGS Earthquake Map |
The magnitude of these quakes was 4.6 to 4.7 on the Richter scale
The epicenter was about 100 miles south east from L.A.
Residents say they could feel the swaying and the after shocks lasted a while but no real damage occurred.
This is but the beginning for something much bigger with California.
The state sits atop two different plates with a net movement of north east. However the eastern portion of the 'push" will be fully submerged soon enough. This means that the net direction of movement for the entire state will change to strictly north. This will create a sheer zone where more earthquakes will occur. If enough fracture networks connect from the stress of the quakes a massive maw could form between California and the rest of the world.
